This dscribes the last Weeding Wednesday of 2023

 at Het Gazebo in Diepenheim ! 

Weeded and ready for the Winter !

You can still enjoy a walk around

and enjoy the Autumnal colours ! 

The volunteers then warmed up at The Pol

and were treated to Coffee and Dutch apple cake !

Thank you to all the volunteers for a great 2023 !

Hope to see you all back again in 2024 !

The ground was so wet even the snails were heading up stairs !

 

How's it looking after Storm Ciarán ?

After a lovely 15 C day last week Wednesday

Storm Ciarán hit The Netherlands Thursday !

It's the third Winter storm since September .

Het Gazebo in Diepenheim is still standing !

The volunteers had a chilly day weeding ! But !

They are Making more progress than the weeds :)

A birthday, cake and coffee/tea, November sunshine

 and a view like this, it's a great place to be this morning !  

While most hostas are at their golden colours of Autumn

there are a few still showing their Summer green hues !

 

It's a mild start to November !

15 C in Diepenheim !

 The volunteers spent the morning weeding at Het Gazebo !

But had to work around the puddles from all the rainfall !

It's been the wettest October since 1906 ! 220 mm rain fall  !

Autumn colours are taking over ! 

 

Sweater Weather !

And maybe rain gear such as a rain jacket, poncho and or an umbrella !

Gardening gloves, waterproofs, it's Autumn ! 

The rain held off for a bit in Diepenheim this morning

 for the volunteers who were weeding at Het Gazebo ! 

I think it's definately Hot Chocolate weather ! 

 

Very persistent when it comes to weeding !

The chill is in the air this morning !

An explosion of baby snails ! 

Leaves yellowing, dissapearing !

It's October ! But stil a comfy 17 C today to get out and garden!

At Het Gazebo the volunteers are deadheading, 

cutting off the scapes, so the energy goes back 

in the plant and roots and not in the seed heads. 

But there are lovely surprises !

Changing Seasons at Het Gazebo !

Today started out as Autumn, ended as Summer !

In the news last week...

Regional heatwaves ,defined as five consecutive days above 25C including three over 30C ,  have been declared in parts of the Netherlands after the temperature passed 25C for the fifth day in a row on Friday.

and yesterday in Limburg 

Heavy rains caused flooded streets and basements in parts of Zuid-Limburg on Tuesday evening. The KNMI had a code yellow warning in effect for the province, warning of downpours. Wednesday will be a mix of clouds and sun in the Netherlands, with strong winds along the coast and rain in the north during the morning.

We're here at Het Gazebo !

250 km north of Maastricht you'll find Diepenheim 

Fall is in the air and in the hostas !

But you can still enjoy the later in the season flowering hostas !

Great weather expected this weekend so come and enjoy the area!

 

The warmest 6th September on record !

It couldn't be any greater a difference compared to last week !

It's twice as warm ! Record breaking ! 31 C !

But Autunm is still to be seen at Het Gazebo !

The volunteers worked as well taste tested the lasted menu item 

at The Pol in Diepenheim !

This warm weather, heat wave, is expected to last the week

so if you are looking for something to do, come visit !

 

Hosta & Het Gazebo weather !

It certainly feels like Autumn !

August weather sure was erratic !

Was it really 27 C last week ?

Today didn't even reach 17 C !

It was a chilly 15 C in the rain !

Thanks to the volunteers for keeping up their 

regular weeding Wednesday visits !

Hosta Wu La La 

Just when you thought one had kicked the Hosta addiction

this one shows up !

Groot blauw groen blad met een gele rand. 'Empress Wu' sport uit de USA en lijkt waarschijnlijk veel op onze 'Wunderbar'.Hosta Wu-La-La heeft blauwe bladeren met een gele rand en is een extra large Hosta met licht lila bloemen en groeit in halfschaduw en schaduw . De hoogte is 100 tot 120 cm en de groei is gemiddeld .

It's still great weather for planting hostas !

It was 27 C in Diepenheim today !

There's no thoughts of autumn while weeding today ! 

Sunshine and enough daylight hours keep the weeds growing !

Het Gazebo looks great !

Natuur als sculptuur. Zo kun je het unieke Land-Art-project van de Belgische kunstenaar Urbain Mulkers (1945-2002) omschrijven. Aan de oever van de Regge, zijn in 1995 1.393 hostasoorten geplant, omzoomd door een dubbele rij van 136 rode beuken.

Mid August !

No extreme weather to report this week ! 

Nice Summer weather hanging over Het Gazebo

and Diepenheim these days ! 

Hosta Flowers come in beautiful colours !

When you're in Diepenheim you must visit the cafe De Pol !

The baked goods created by the volunteers are so good !

Enjoy it with a great cup of coffee then walk over to Het Gazebo ! 

A few flowers have a sweet scent !

While others are used as a base for ants 

and theier symboitic realtionship with aphids

It's been raining for days !

Last week was rained out ! 

You have probably heard about the

Extreme weather conditions throughout Europe and the world ! 

Today the sun was back ! It feels like Summer !

The volunteers enjoyed a dry day in Diepenheim ! 

But after rain comes the weeds as well as the 

slugs and snails showing up en masse!

There are still new flowers while others have gone to seed !

Gathered together under a hosta leaf for

 shade from the sun or protection from the rain ?

Mid Summer at Het Gazebo !

We have been enjoying the mild typical Dutch Summer weather

22 C, Showers Sunshine and Wind 

compared to extreme weather in other parts of Europe this week !

The volunteers were prepared for rain but Diepenheim stayed dry !

After a very wam June quite a few hostas have already 

finished blooming !

Bumble Bees like to forage on hosta flowers.

There are 360 different Bee species in The Netherlands.

34 species haave disappeared.

50 % of the species are being threatened.

Let's talk about the weather !

Ater June being the warmest on record in The Netherlands and being the warmest country in Europe, we then had Poly,the worst Summer storm pass over us last week Wednesday ! Code red for parts of The Netherlands !  Then yesterday, it was very warm and by evening we ended with heavy rains! This morning the rain gauge measured 20 mm ! Good rain for the fields, forests and hostas ! 

About this time of the Summer, after warm,

 rainy days, the slugs are starting to show

 their presence but from a distance all looks well !

It could also be hail damage from earlier this year !

Lets enjoy the Summer ! 

Next time you're at Het Gazebo think about
