Wrapping up 2020 at Het Gazebo

We wish you a hosta filled 2021 !

It was a cold misty frosty morning for the team of volunteers who gathered at Het Gazebo in Diepenheim for one last time for 2020. A fire, hot chocolate, coffee, tea and some good cheer to share and the traditional year end visit to Kunstvereniging Diepenheim (click here) rounded off the hosta season.  We're all wishing you a cozy Christmas and seeing you back here in 2021 !

After the first frost of the season

Het Gazebo looks very different come December !

The hostas are dormant, ready for the Winter.

Thanks to the great team of volunteers for making 2020, 

a year of social distancing and the new normal,

a special year at Het Gazebo.

It was a beautiful day for the volunteers at Het Gazebo!

They got to work and found a surpise !

They found a gift from Sint and Piet !

Het Gazebo, an Autumn break

A gorgeous Autum day, a walk around, enjoy!

The volunteers are staying away for a few weeks,

in regards to the latest Covid 19 guidelines .

Het Gazebo is ready for Winter !

Rain, wind, warmest 21st October !

What a very rainy Autumn day at Het Gazebo !

Everything is wet... ground,  weeds,  gloves,  tools.

The warm temperature didn't help things dry out !

The volunteers are self sufficient, good at self catering !

Catching up !

The last day of September !

Does it seem possible to catch up with the weeds at Het Gazebo ?

The Netherlands is now in its second wave of Covid - 19.

The volunteers are addapting to  " hands, face, (a lot of) space" 

and getting a lot of fresh air ! And are even prepared for rain.

Thanks for keeping Het Gazebo growing for the future !

Het Gazebo in Diepenheim has been featured in the regional TV news, RTV Oost! 

Het Gazebo (click here) It begins at minute 7:10. Ton expains how Het gazebo has fewer hostas. The heat and very dry weather over the last few years have really reduced hosta numbers. Before a permanent solution can be made, the garden hoses have been rolled out! And, as you see, that's quite the hosta leaf to water!

 

It's Autumn !

Summer weather hasn't quite left...one more day of sunshine!

The local farmers are busy bringing in the corn !

Looks like the volunteers ejoyed their coffee break outside ! 

While most hostas at Het Gazebo are turning to 

their coppery gold colours of Fall...

Other hostas are still holding on to Summer!

When repairs are necessary !

When it's time to replace a pump, Monumet has to move !

It's quite the technical strucure ! And an art form with stairs in one !

4 years ago the pump at Het Gazebo looked a lot different !

Today, Monomet is used to get a great view!

When you visit Diepenheim, take the stairs!

It's not quite Autumn yet ! Next week theSummer termperatures are back!

A new season begins at Het Gazebo !

Autumn! What a beautiful way to start September at Het Gazebo !

Warm sunny weeding weather after the night had cooled to 8 C.

The volunteers, changing and adapting techniques when necessary,

made a lot of progress keeping the area weed free and hosta green! 

 

 

A noticeable change

 There's not only a noticeable change in mid August as the hostas grow from flower to seed and the last few days of this years record breaking heat wave pass but the weeding done by the volunteers at Het Gazebo Monomet in Diepenheim is very obvious!  Thanks to the volunteers for spending time and energy maintaining this green growing  and ever changing Hosta leaf art form! 

Very warm! It's a heat wave !

Stay cool ! Drink lots !  Stay in the shade!

It's our National plan of action for days just like these!

 Like hostas, that's what the volunteers are trying to do !

In the Summer time.....

 ...when the hostas are fine ! It's already August !

Just look how far the volunteers have progressed at Het Gazebo!

They have weeded and weeded and weeded and replanted and replanted and replanted and have hostas in stand by ! What a view from Monomet!  A hosta high light in 2020 !

The weather here in The Netherlands sure can change!

Summer showers! Sure makes hostas grow better !

In spite of the bad weather the volunteers

weeded and replanted another area! 

A Summer Garden Tour..adapted !

After a few months of self isolation, social distancing and

other Covid 19 preventative measures, The Netherlands 

has relaxed as well as maintained a few of it's guidelines.

Then the invitation was sent out ! 

 Hans and Jacqueline hosted this year's Hosta garden tour !

 It's the Summer garden tour ...adapted !

1 garden, 3 time slots, small groups, lots of space!

preregistration...a lot to organise!

 There is so much to see!

 Hostas hostas hostas...300+ 

 a fun way to display mini's !

 Lot's of creative gardening ideas !

 Garden art !

 Good wood! 

 Makes for great backdrops !

 They have 4 chickens that do their fair share of gardening!

 and places to sit through out!

 comfy, cozy, all with great garden views!

 Did I mention all the other flowers!

 Hosta la vista!  50 people visited through out the day !

 enjoyed, bought hostas and plants and things....

And ! enjoyed the best Vlaai from Limburg !

Vlaai, also known as Limburgse vlaai, is a pie or tart consisting of a pastry and filling. Vlaai is usually 26—31 centimeters in diameter. It is a typical product from the province of Limburg 

and a few extra photo's!

Hosta La Vista in Klarenbeek!

The original farm dates back to 1906 !

But, from the 1980's it had fallen into disrepair.
